Archaeological treasures were hidden in their homes by residents of the Imathia region, three “treasure diggers”, as Greek law enforcement officials discovered.
During the investigation by the Department of Cultural Heritage and Antiquities of the Thessaloniki Police Department, a 34-year-old Greek man and a 40-year-old Bulgarian woman were arrested, while a third (the 55-year-old husband of the Bulgarian citizen) was later identified and added to the same case as an accomplice.
In total, the detainees Eleven ancient objects were discovered and confiscated from burials of the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic periods (500-150 BC), as well as 142 bronze coins and one bronze belt buckle. According to experts, All of the above objects fall under protective provisions of the law on the protection of antiquities and cultural heritage in general and are considered to be of special archaeological value.

The detainees were taken to the competent prosecutor, and the third citizen, their accomplice, was declared wanted.
