Electricity Bills: Subsidies in September

By subsidizing electricity bills for household consumers, the Greek government aims to compensate for “fluctuating” tariffs.

Decisions of the political leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Energy on the abolition of subsidies in September revised. According to the information, the subsidy is expected to return to the same levels as in August. That is, households consuming electricity up to 500 kWh will receive a subsidy of 1.6 cents per kilowatt-hour. The assistance will apply to special or “green” electricity tariffs.

According to Hellenic Energy Exchange, the average wholesale price from 1 to 29 August was 129.9 euros/MWh, while in the corresponding period in July it was 137.16 euros/MWh. It is worth noting that Suppliers, according to initial estimates, will maintain tariffs for electricity no changes in September.

Protergia has already rushed to announce its decision, as it did in August, seeking, as sources in the company claim, to “set the appropriate pace for the market.” Other major providers, such as DEI and IRON.
