An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale was recorded in Evia on the evening of August 26.
According to the updated decision of the Institute of Geodynamics, the epicenter of the earthquake is located 4 kilometers southeast of Vasiliki Istiia. The depth of the source is estimated at 15.4 kilometers.
Seismologists are reassuring about the earthquake that was felt in Attica. Akis Tselentis, director of the Geodynamic Institute, said that “there will be a series of aftershocks” because the earthquake had a very shallow focal depth:
“If you look at the seismicity of the region over the last seven days, you will see a very long series of micro-earthquakes. Although it is too early for a scientist to say anything like that, personally I do not see any reason to worry, I attribute this to normal seismicity.”
