On Saturday, August 24, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Andrey Yusov, reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have a plan to return occupied Crimea and the final destruction of the Kerch Bridge.
Yusov noted that the Russians are using the temporarily occupied peninsula as a “large military base.” He added that Crimea is an important territory for the Russians from a logistical point of view. The GUR representative said:
“I would like to look at my watch and say that the bridge has 15 minutes left to stand, but the reality is more complicated.”
Yusov added that the Defense Forces have a plan to de-occupy the peninsula, but noted that these details will not be disclosed for now:
“Of course, the Security and Defense Forces have plans both for the de-occupation of Ukrainian lands and the peninsula, and for the destruction of all things that hinder this. We will not make announcements. Just as we did not do this in the past, when the corresponding defeats were inflicted and were effective.”
On August 20, the monitoring group Crimean Wind reported that the Russians had begun construction of another structure resembling a bridge along the Crimean Bridge.
