Weather: winter forecast

Meromenia is an ancient method of weather forecasting. In rural areas, people have preserved and passed on practical knowledge of studying and forecasting the weather for thousands of years. By examining natural phenomena and “signs” from the sky, they tried to guess the weather conditions for the coming year.

People chose August as the month to decipher weather symbols, as this month was considered the beginning of winter. According to observations, Whatever the weather is on the first day of observation, the same weather will be in the first month of the year.

Some count the days from the 1st to the 12th of August, others from the 3rd to the 15th. The only thing that doesn't change is that there are always twelve days, and each one corresponds to a month, starting with August.

In rural areas, there are people who make predictions by looking at the night sky, observing the movement of the stars, because it is believed that in this way they will be able to predict their work and occupations, especially those who live in rural areas and are engaged in agricultural and livestock work.

Weather in autumn and winter 2024-2025

• September 2024: Temperatures will be normal in the south of the country, but slightly lower in the north and central Greece. Sunny weather will be long lasting.
• October 2024: in the last ten days of the month it is expected the first major storm with low temperatures for the season across the country.
• November 2024: The first snow is expected between 8 and 13 November, with snow falling at very low altitudes in Macedonia and possibly in Epirus and Thessaly,
• December 2024: The first ten days of December will bring low temperatures and possible snowfall in the lowlands of Macedonia and at very low altitudes in the central and eastern parts of the country. In the last ten days of the year, the weather will gradually become milder, but with rainfall throughout the country.
• January 2025: The month will start with low temperatures and possible snowfalls in the lowlands of the northern country. In the middle of the month, unusually cold temperatures for the season and gradual snowfalls are possible across the country.
