July 2024 was the hottest since 2010


This July was the warmest July since 2010 in northern and western Greece and the Ionian Sea, according to data from the meteo.gr network of 53 weather stations of the National Observatory of Athens (EAA), which have been operating continuously since 2010.

In the above regions, monthly averages fluctuated up to +3.4°C above the seasonal norm. Also in northern and western Greece, monthly averages were almost 1-2°C above the second warmest July (in 2023).

In the capital, the average monthly deviation of the maximum temperature was +2.0°C, while 27 of the 31 days of the month were warmer than normal for the season. In Thessaloniki, 26 days of the month were warmer than the average for the period 2010-2019, when the average maximum temperature of the month was +2.5°C above normal. Overall, at 90% of the 49 stations, 26 days (at least) out of 31 were warmer than normal.
