Two arrested for terrorist attacks – in which cases they appear

On Friday, June 21, authorities arrested two people, 40 and 52 years old, for their involvement in the envelope bomb case that went through the courts of Thessaloniki, as well as in a number of cases of planting explosive devices.

Arrest warrants have been issued against them. The 52-year-old man was being held at Domokos Prison for drug and robbery cases. There he met another defendant in the case, from whom he received orders and had contact with both prisoners and those outside the prison. The 40-year-old was involved in a “raid” on the Petralona bank and had previously harassed authorities in connection with drugs.

At the same time, as part of a coordinated police operation in Athens and Thessaloniki, their homes were searched in the presence of representatives of the judiciary. Those arrested were taken to the competent prosecutor's office.

We remind you that on February 27, 2024, the Anti-Terrorism Service (DAEEB) carried out an organized police operation in Athens and in provincial detention centers with the aim of arresting persons involved in terrorist attacks. Five cases have been solved so far:

  • Sending a booby-trapped envelope with explosives to the Thessaloniki courthouse, which was discovered on 02/12/2024,
  • explosion of an improvised explosive device in a bank branch in Petralona 01/25/2024,
  • explosion of an improvised explosive device on 11/13/2023 in a complex of buildings in Kifissia, where one of the companies is located,
  • throwing a grenade on 07/08/2023 at a car belonging to a prison officer, which was parked in the parking lot of a residential building in Haidari,
  • throwing a grenade and exploding an improvised explosive device on 06/24/2023 in the courtyard of a house in Larisa.
