Within colossal strategic project Russia and Iran connected Persian Gulf and Baltic Sea railwayand Moscow for the first time in its history gained access to warm seas for its goods.
Tehran has just announced that a rail link between the port of Bandar Abbas on the Persian Gulf and St. Petersburg on the Baltic Sea is a fait accompli.
The connection was made possible through the port of Anzali on the Caspian Sea. The new line is part of the large International North-South Transport Corridor (INTSC), which includes sea, road and rail routes connecting India, Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia.
The strategic importance of this project is very great, since it allows Russia to deliver its goods to all the countries of the Persian Gulf, Pakistan, East African countries and, of course, to India within a matter of hours! The traditional route via the Black and Baltic Seas now becomes insignificant as transportation time is reduced to 1/20 from the Baltic Sea and 1/8 from the Black Sea!
In particular, the connection of St. Petersburg by land and sea with a port in western India is the most important development of the last two centuries, in terms of communications between the two countries, which are also economic allies in the BRICS+ association. In addition, this line will expand the access of Central Asian countries to international markets through the Persian Gulf and strengthen the economy of the CSTO alliance.

This is the second Russian-Iranian deal announced in one day. It was preceded by the announcement of the creation of a special industrial zone that would produce 6,000 Geran drones (Shahed-136 in their Iranian version) per year in the Alabuga special economic zone in Tatarstan.
