A prosecutor's investigation has been launched into the activities of a criminal organization in the Piraeus morgue.
The investigation was ordered ex officio by the head of the Piraeus District Prosecutor's Office, Irini Maragaki, based on complaints from criminal lawyer Yiannis Apatzidis.
A famous lawyer in his television appearance in the program “Open Court” (“Δίκη στο Open) said that “criminal organizations exist and they survive because they also infiltrate some levels of the justice system.” And he added: “There is a retired employee in the Piraeus municipality who “collaborated” with the morgue, which is under the jurisdiction of the Piraeus municipality. There are actually videos and photos. The problem has been reported for several months. Why should he, this pensioner, go to the Piraeus morgue for five months and collect money from funeral homes?”
The Piraeus prosecutor ex officio forwarded complaints to the head of the Piraeus prosecutor's office, Ms. Maragakis, who ordered an investigation.
