In Thessaloniki, two male tourists from Ukraine received 12 months in prison, suspended for three years.
They were found guilty writes Greek publication Ekathimerini, of sexually assaulting three teenagers aged 12 to 14 years. The incident occurred on the night of Holy Saturday.
Two girls told the court that men approached them with drinks in their hands near the Thessaloniki train station, spoke in a language they did not understand, and then “touched” them.
The defendants, aged 26 and 42, told the court that they arrived in Greece for Easter. They explained their actions with the “joy of resurrection”: “In our country there is a tradition of hugging on the night of the Resurrection.”
