The United States imposed sanctions against the Russian military for the crimes they committed in the Ukrainian cities of Bucha and Andreevka.
Information about this has appeared Online The State Department is a federal executive body of the US government. The department noted that “the US Department of State is adding Azatbek Omurbekov, also known as the “Buchansky Butcher,” a colonel in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, to the list of individuals involved in gross violations of human rights,” in particular the killings of civilians in Andreevka.
Russian soldier Daniil Frolkin was also included in the list, “due to his involvement in a gross violation of human rights,” namely the murder of an unarmed Ukrainian civilian in Andreevka. Omurbekov and Frolkin, as well as their closest relatives, are prohibited from entering the United States, the State Department notes, clarifying:
“Colonel Omurbekov was the commander of the 64th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Russian Armed Forces during the period when Russian troops controlled the Ukrainian city of Andreevka.”
It is noted that Omurbekov later led the brigade to Bucha, where, as the US State Department established during an investigation, the 64th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade “killed, beat, dismembered, burned and carried out mock executions of civilians.”
After evidence of the brigade’s brutality emerged, the department notes, the Kremlin responded with a statement saying that Russian President Putin had awarded the 64th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, and the Russian Ministry of Defense had promoted Omurbekov and praised his leadership.”
The State Department adds that the involvement of Omurbekov and Frolkin has been documented and proven by independent investigations: “The United States is committed to holding accountable for Russia’s abuses and atrocities against the people of Ukraine.”
