From January 1, 2024, the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh ceases to exist, as stated in the decree of the President of the Republic Samvel Shahramanyan:
“Dissolve all state institutions and organizations under their departmental subordination until January 1, 2024, and the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) ceases to exist.”
The population of Karabakh, including those who are outside the republic, after the entry into force of this decree, is recommended to familiarize themselves with the conditions of reintegration, which are presented by Azerbaijan, in order to make an independent decision on the possibility of staying in Nagorno-Karabakh.”
The decree comes into force immediately after publication.
In the document emphasized, that the decision to liquidate the unrecognized republic was made due to the difficult military-political situation, based on “the priority of ensuring the physical security of the people of Artsakh.” An agreement with representatives of Azerbaijan on the possibility for residents of Nagorno-Karabakh, including military personnel who have laid down their arms, to freely travel to Armenia through the Lachin corridor has also been taken into account.
