Greece is taking advantage of its healthy relationship with China in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and will continue to cooperate along the way, said Spyros Lambridis, Permanent Representative of Greece to NATO.
“For now, all we get from it is the benefits of a healthy and legitimate business relationship,” he said in an interview with CNBC this week, pointing to a major and successful case of bilateral BRI cooperation in Greece – an investment project from China’s Cosco Shipping. in the port of Piraeus.
The group’s subsidiary, Piraeus Container Terminal, has been operating the port’s container terminal since 2009.
The Chinese company Cosco has already invested more than 600 million euros in the development of the port and, apparently, this is not the limit.
“The Chinese have directly and openly won the commercial part of the port of Piraeus … Now Piraeus is once again, thanks to investment and national efforts, the first largest port in the Mediterranean,” said Lambridis.
