Greek Search and Rescue Team ΕΜΑΚ and the ΕΚΑΒ Ambulance Service were awarded by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The award ceremony took place during a special ceremony to present the “State Medal for Outstanding Sacrifice” to the rescue teams that assisted Turkey after the deadly earthquakes on February 6 at the National Conference and Culture Center at the Presidential Palace in Ankara.
Firefighter Tomas Krikellis received awards on behalf of the Greek special services. The Greek Ambassador Christodoulos Lazaris was also awarded the medal. The Turkish President noted the solidarity of Greece in connection with the earthquakes that hit the country and said, quotes CNN Greece:
“We know who our friends were on that dark day. Personally, on behalf of me and on behalf of my nation and state, I would like to express my deep gratitude for your efforts in the earthquake zone.”
