On Saturday, March 4, the American cruiser Liberty Pride arrived at the port of Alexandroupolis carrying military equipment from NATO forces destined for Southeast Europe.
The giant (199.9 m long, 32.26 m long and 8.5 m long) ship was moored in the morning and began to unload military stores. Further, the cruiser will continue on its way to Bulgaria and Romania, where in the coming period, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, two major NATO military exercises will be held – “Atlantic Resolve 23” and “Defender Europe 23”.
Liberty Pride has arrived in Alexandroupolis from the US port of Charleston and will depart mid-next week after loading other supplies and equipment for NATO forces. The American cruiser is the first in the convoy chain supply of allied forces in South-Eastern Europe. The process is expected to last until the end of August.
As with other military transits, shipments will continue from the port of Alexandroupoli via trains and trucks. The same route is followed by cargo returning from the exercise fields.
More than 200 US troops have already been stationed in Alexandroupoli to coordinate and control the transit, in cooperation with the port authorities and the Greek army.
