The Israeli parliament voted for the country’s new president. Itzhak Herzog was elected to this post, who was supported by 87 out of 120 Knesset members in a secret ballot.
The Times of Israel reports that the victory of Yitzhak Herzog, who replaced Reuven Rivlin, was announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This is the first time in the history of the country that the son of a former statesman has become president. The Duke is the son of the President of Israel, 1983-1993, Chaim Herzog.
The newly elected president has been in charge of the Jewish Agency for Israel “Sokhnut” since 2018. Miriam Peretz became his rival in the elections. This is the second woman in the history of Israel to claim such a high position.
