Greece has diversified grain imports from Russia and Ukraine with supplies from other markets, as well as other food supply chains, and there is no need to worry about food shortages, Agriculture and Food Minister Giorgos Georgantas said on Friday.
The minister said two products that Greece imported in large quantities before the war in Ukraine were wheat and corn. “Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary and Romania are already sending shipments that fully cover any need,” he stressed, adding that flour producers are not reporting problems “as the supply chain is working normally.”
Minister Georgantas acknowledged that there is a “price problem”, mainly related to the previous energy crisis. However, he stated that “there will also be some balance in this area as the government tries to help.” He said these efforts are aimed at helping farmers and vulnerable groups cope with energy costs.
The minister did not say about grain stocks and how much they will be enough for the above countries.
