Agreements for the supply of Belharra will be signed by National Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos and his French counterpart Florence Parly on the battleship Averof in a ceremony expected to be attended by 14 senior officials from the French Defense Ministry and the company that builds the Belharra frigates.
According to the information, the French Defense Minister will arrive at the Athens airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” on a special flight on Thursday. Giving a solemn tone to the ceremony, the French nuclear aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle has already arrived in Faliro Bay.
Immediately after the final signing of contracts for the acquisition by our country of Belharra frigates and six additional Rafale fighters, two delegations will go aboard the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier. There, after inspecting the aircraft carrier, Greek and French officials would be briefed on the French ship’s mission in the southeastern Mediterranean.
The Greek authorities decided to hold a magnificent ceremony of signing the treaty on the battleship Averof, which, as a museum ship, is in Faliro Bay.
As we reported earlier, Greece signed a defensive alliance with France, under which it acquired 24 aircraft (eighteen+6) 5th generation Rafale and 6 warships: 3 Belharra frigates and 3 Gowind-class corvettes. First 6 aircraft already arrived in Greece.
