Amid the ongoing military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Airbnb has announced that it will provide free temporary accommodation for 100,000 Ukrainian refugees. But, as the Athens News found out, it was not so easy.
As it became known on March 8, the co-founders Airbnb — Brian Chesky, Joe Gebbia and Nathan Blecharczyk — sent letters to leaders of various European countries, including Poland, Germany, Hungary and Romania, offering help to those affected by the conflict.

“The company will work closely with the governments of these countries to provide support to displaced people, including long-term stays,” the company said in a statement. The website of the Greek tourism organization GNTO also made repost company’s statements, inviting property owners in Greece, cooperating with Airbnb, to help refugees from Ukraine.
However, this statement turned out to be slightly premature. The fact is that Airbnb does not have its own housing and, accordingly, will not be able to provide it to refugees from Ukraine. But the company is already offering some solutions.
