Athens Mayor Kostas Bakogiannis is promoting an ambitious 12-year contract to replace street lighting in the capital, totaling € 53,655,680.
According to Documento, this is the supply and installation of equipment to replace 43,678 old luminaires with new technology lighting equipment on the streets of seven city districts. The technical proposal was entrusted to the concern “Μυτιληναίος Ανώνυμη Εταιρεία Όμιλος Επιχειρήσεων”, which won the tender.
According to the corresponding report, of the 53 655 680.40 euros that make up the budget, most of it is included in the public investment program (45 688 362.00 euros), and the remainder will be covered by the own resources of the municipality of Athens.
The criterion for awarding a contract to a specific contractor, according to the municipality, was the most economically advantageous offer.
As noted, the average annual cost of servicing street lighting sources by competent employees of the municipality is estimated at 1,650,000 euros.
Consequently, the maintenance cost of 45,373 existing luminaires over ten years is 16,500,000.00 euros.
