The cleanup of the Thermaikos Gulf, located near Thessaloniki, is of great importance for the ecology of the region. The gulf suffers from significant pollution, especially microplastics, which pose a serious threat to marine life and, ultimately, human health.

Why is this important:

  1. Protection of the marine ecosystem. Microplastics and other pollutants can harm marine life, including fish, which are important in the food chain.
  2. Human health. Contaminated fish can end up on the table, which poses a health hazard to people. Microplastics and chemicals contained in plastics can cause various diseases.
  3. Economic importance: Fishing and tourism are important industries for the region. A clean bay helps to develop these industries and improve the quality of life of local residents.

Regular cleaning and green initiatives help reduce pollution and preserve natural resources for future generations.
