Applications for the social household tariff KOT for electricity have started


Until September 2, all interested parties can apply for the provision of a social tariff KOT for electricity. Who is entitled to benefits, conditions for provision.

Social tariff KOT

After the tax filing deadline of August 2, the filing applications for the provision of electricity at the social household tariff KOT, which will be valid for beneficiaries for the next 12 months.

By offering discounts, the special tariff makes the price per kilowatt-hour (depending on the category of the recipient) 4.5-7.5 cents lower than the supplier's standard rate.

The deadline for filing applications is one month after the tax return filing deadline, which is September 2. We present useful information for beneficiaries on the conditions for providing the KOT.

Who is eligible for a preferential tariff?

There are two categories of beneficiaries:

CAT A intended for persons receiving social solidarity income payments.

CAT B – this includes those who meet the established conditions:

  1. their total annual actual or imputed income is within the established limits;
  2. for a household that includes persons with a disability of 67% or more, the income limit is increased by 8,000 euros;
  3. for a household that includes a person who requires mechanical support using medical devices necessary for them, the income limit is increased by 15,000 euros;
  4. for each additional adult member, an amount of €4,500 is added, and for each minor, €2,250, up to a total limit of €31,500, regardless of the number of family members. The upper limit of €31,500 is increased by €8,000 for a household that includes a person with a disability of 67% or more, and by €15,000 for a household that includes a person with necessary mechanical support;
  5. household members own real estate in Greece or abroad with a total taxable value of up to €120,000 for a single-person household, increasing by €15,000 for each additional member up to a maximum of €180,000;
  6. Family members fail to declare living expenses, including yacht crew fees, private school fees, and expenses for domestic helpers, drivers, teachers, and other staff.

An application for entry into the preferential program is submitted annually, in order to recheck the conditions for entry into it. Applications are submitted electronically via ΗΔΙΚΑ (idika) the person liable to file a family income tax return or his/her spouse, provided that the electricity supply is already in the name of the person liable or his/her spouse. Each household receives COT only for the supply to the main house. The COT applies to the entire four-month consumption and up to the relevant limits provided for each category of beneficiaries:

  • for one person 1400 kilowatt-hours;
  • for two adult members or a family with one parent and one minor family member – 1600 kilowatt-hours;
  • for a household consisting of two adult members and one minor, or a single-parent family consisting of two minor members, 1,700 kilowatt-hours.
  • for three adult members or two adults and two minors, or a family with one parent and three minors – 1800 kilowatt-hours.
  • A household with three adults and one minor member, or two adults and three minor members, or a single-parent family with four minor members is entitled to 1,900 kilowatt-hours.
  • A household with four adult members or two adults and four minor members, or a family with one parent and five minor members will pay the reduced rate for 2,000 kilowatt-hours.
  • If consumption is less than 200 kWh over four months, the KOT discount is not calculated.

For a household that includes a person or persons with a disability of 67% or more, the above consumption limits are increased by 300 kWh. For a household that also includes a person or persons requiring mechanical support using medical devices, the above consumption limits are increased by 600 kWh.

An additional 200 kWh is added for each additional adult household member and an additional 100 kWh for each additional minor household member, up to a total limit of 2,400 kWh regardless of the number of household members. The specific upper limit (2,400 kWh) is increased by 300 kWh for a household that includes a person or persons with a disability of 67% or more and by 600 kWh for a household that includes persons requiring mechanical support using medical devices.

The discount is 4.5 cents per kilowatt-hour for KOT B' beneficiaries and 7.5 cents for KOT A'. It is applied to the payment for daytime and nighttime consumption if the consumer has a nighttime tariff.
