Italians Say Yes to Holidays in Greece

The “great exodus” of Italian holidaymakers has begun, with tourists this year opting for more affordable destinations such as Greece, Spain and Albania.

In just the first two weekends of August twenty eight million Italians will leave the towns and cities. However, last weekend there was already traffic at the railway stations, airports and motorways. According to statistics, six out of ten Italians will go on holiday. They will spend an average of eighty-five euros a day, while due to financial constraints, the percentage of citizens who decide to take a holiday in September, when overall costs are more moderate, increases.

In Italy, this year, prices in hotels, restaurants and various tourist facilities will increase by 7.9% compared to last year. This is one of the reasons that makes more and more tourists choose destinations outside the national borders. And this year, Italian tourists prefer Greece, Spain and Albania not only because of the beauty of nature, but also because they are “budget options” for them.

A few days ago, there were reports in the press about the number of coronavirus cases in Greece is rising, but the Italian Foreign Ministry has not issued a directive to that effect, and, at least at this stage, the media is not giving it much importance.
