Canteen founder and her relatives accused of misappropriating donations

The Athens prosecutor's office has decided to open a criminal case against the founder of the “O Allos Anthropos” (“The Other Man”) canteen, Konstantinos Polychronopoulos, and two of his relatives, it was announced on Monday.

Polychronopoulos, his mother and son-in-law are accused of embezzling about 600,000 euros in donations over three years, from 2020 to 2023. According to sources, a seven-month investigation into the soup kitchen's financial management has uncovered evidence to support criminal charges of creating a criminal organization and money laundering. It was revealed that various donations intended for the soup kitchen were transferred to the personal accounts of Polychronopoulos' relatives.

Polychronopoulos has repeatedly denied the allegations, saying all donations received went to the needs of the canteen, which has been operating since 2012.
