Unemployment in Greece has risen to 10%, DYPA figures show


According to DYPAregistered Unemployed people make up almost 10% of the country's populationIn June 2024, the number of registered unemployed people was 812,958.

In particular, there are 262,114 men (32.2%) registered as unemployed in the DPA register, while there are 550,844 women (67.8%).

The age category 30-44 years has the largest number of registered persons, which is 261,693 people (32.2%). The level of secondary education has the largest number among registered persons and is 371.

Among the regions of the country, the largest number of registered people – 286,276 people (35.2%) and 163,095 people (20.1%) – are in the regions of Attica and Central Macedonia, respectively.

The total number of subsidized unemployed as of June 2024 (refers to the number of recipients of benefits paid during the relevant month) is 105,374, of which 96,709 (91.8%) are ordinary unemployed and other categories of subsidized unemployed, and 8,665 (8.2%) are seasonal workers in tourism professions. Men account for 44,190 (41.9%), women – 61,184 (58.1%).

Of the total number of subsidized unemployed, 92,216 (87.5%) are ordinary workers, 2,269 (2.2%) are construction workers, 8,665 (8.2%) are seasonal tourism workers, 1,042 (1.0%) are seasonal agricultural workers, 1,071 (1.0%) are teachers, and 111 (0.1%) are others.
