On Monday, July 8, Russia launched a massive missile strike on several Ukrainian cities. Today, the UN Security Council will consider the consequences of the strike on the children's hospital in Kyiv.

In Kyiv, 27 people were killed, including 4 children, and 117 were wounded. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said:
“In total, almost 100 objects were damaged: a children's hospital, ordinary houses, kindergartens, a maternity hospital, a college, a business center. The rubble is still being cleared at the sites.”
On Monday, the Russian military launched about 40 missiles of various types at Ukraine, attacking Kyiv, Dnepr, Krivoy Rog, Pokrovsk, Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sharply condemned the Russian strikes. He called them strikes on a children's hospital and another health care facility were “particularly shocking.” This was reported by Stefan Dujarric, representative of the UN Secretary-General:
“Attacks on civilians and civilian objects are prohibited by international humanitarian law. Any such attacks are unacceptable and must stop immediately.”
A Security Council meeting will be convened on Tuesday morning at the request of Britain, France, Ecuador, Slovenia and the United States. UK Permanent Representative to the UN Barbara Woodward said in an X-post:
“We will condemn the cowardly Russian attack on the hospital.”
The Russian Defense Ministry said that troops struck Ukrainian defense industry facilities and aircraft bases. The ministry denied allegations of shelling civilians. Despite this, Reuters emphasizes, many thousands of civilians have been killed by Russian forces since the February 2022 invasion.
