Tribute to the beauty of Athens: French magazine “Destination” worships the Greek capital

The French magazine “Destination” describes Athens as an open-air museum, a city full of life and authenticity.

“Ancient and vibrant, Athens is like no other city. The cradle of Western civilization, the capital of Greece is an open-air museum that at the same time firmly places itself in the present.– writes a French magazine about Athens. – Its streets and alleys are bustling with life, like all the cities of the South that sleep with one eye open. Here, the authenticity of the old tavern competes with the modernity of trendy spots in a cheerful melting pot where everyone has a place.”

The 135-page book is the result of Gros's journalistic trip to our country, organized in April 2023 by EOT France in collaboration with the Attica Region. The French journalist, describing Athens as an ideal place for a holiday and a long vacation, talks in detail about the cultural heritage and contemporary cultural image of the city, about the peculiarities of each district in its center, its gastronomy and nightlife, as well as about the sights of the southern suburbs, the Athenian Riviera, the city of Piraeus and the nearby islands that elevate the travel experience.

The publication's editor-in-chief, Christophe Bonickel, states in the issue's editorial that “Today all major cities are becoming the same, “victims” of the onslaught of globalization and gentrification. Athens is fighting back with all its might, determined to remain the authentic place it has always been.”

Greece is not only Athens. In the past, the French magazine has dedicated its multi-page travel reports to other Greek regions such as Delphi, Meteora, Olympia, Naxos, Paros, Syros and Santorini.

Destination magazine is published four times a year with a circulation of 30,000 copies and is distributed at various points of sale, train stations and airports in France, as well as in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy, Portugal, Spain, the UK, the USA and through online platforms in French, English and Italian.

Each issue is dedicated to one of the countries or regions of Europe (Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, etc.), the USA, Canada or Japan.
