Tourism: Norwegians 'vote' for Greece

According to a survey of travel industry experts, Norwegian travellers consider Greece an ideal holiday destination, with magnificent nature, hospitable people, delicious food and “an area for endless exploration”, reports the website startsiden.no.

Lefkada with its magnificent beaches, Alonissos with its untouched nature and hospitable Karpathos with its unique landscape are the top “triad” of the list. Next come green Thassos and atmospheric Syros.

Other places representing mainland Greece such as Preveza, Ioannina and Parga also offer unique tours. The list is completed by the established and timeless destinations of Crete with its timeless charm, Samos with its rich history, iconic Santorini, Rhodes which has it all and popular Kos.

“Samos, the island of Pythagoras, Aristarchus and Epicurus, is a charming place that offers everything you could wish for. Exceptional natural landscapes, beaches with crystal clear waters, majestic mountains, monuments of ancient civilization, unique local products. Travelers have the opportunity to explore picturesque villages and get to know the traditions, excellent local cuisine and warm hospitality. Cultural and sports activities will make your stay on the island unforgettable,” says the mayor of East Samos, Paris Papageorgiou.

“Taking advantage of the multifaceted tourism product of Samos, we aim to strengthen ties with established foreign markets such as Scandinavia, as well as open up markets such as Turkey based on new favourable conditions,” added Samos Deputy Mayor for Tourism Evangelos Marnesos.

“Scandinavians prefer Karpathos even before the high season, showing satisfactory arrival rates. The island remains authentic, while offering a wide range of options for staying for more than a week, exploring villages, dozens of exotic beaches and historical sites,” added Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Municipality of Karpathos, Tasos Milios.

“We are systematically working to strengthen tourism in Alonissos, while maintaining the identity of a non-massive destination where you can relax, enjoy home-style hospitality and local cuisine, as well as enjoy outdoor activities in the largest natural marine park in the Mediterranean and the first underwater museum in Greece,” said Diogenis Theodorou, Chairman of the Alonissos Municipality Tourism Committee and travel agent.
