The Earth was covered by a geomagnetic storm

A geomagnetic storm caused by several moderate to strong solar flares, will last at least two days. Many weather addicts have already experienced this themselves.

A red level magnetic storm will cover the Earth on Friday, June 28. It will reach the K-5 level and last for two days. A magnetic storm has a classification: a letter index and a number. In this case, the K index, and the number is 5 (this is moderate).

From K-index 5 to K-index 9 – these are red level storms that can affect not only the well-being of people on Earth, but also cause failures in the operation of equipment, satellites, radio frequencies, GPRS and communication towers. During storms K-index 8-9, northern lights are possible.

As Dr. Costas Tsiotsiou, solar energy physicist at IAADET/National Observatory of Athens, notes, “gGeomagnetic storms are temporary disturbances in the Earth's magnetosphere, the natural shield that forms around the Earth's magnetic field as a result of its interaction with the “solar wind,” which is a continuous flow of plasma (electrically charged particles) from the Sun.

These disturbances occur due to changes in solar wind speed, sudden increases in solar energetic particles, but mainly due to coronal mass ejections (SEMs) that hit the magnetosphere. These are “clouds” of hot plasma that are ejected from the Sun from time to time. SEMs are usually the result of sudden and violent explosions (flares) on the Sun, which, even if directed at Earth, take an average of 2–3 days to reach its surface. The strength of a geomagnetic storm is measured in letters and numbers on a scale from 1 (weakest) to 5 (strongest), which can increase or decrease as it develops“.

Scientists confirm that solar flares and geomagnetic disturbances can cause people to feel unwell and affect their moodDuring magnetic storms, people often complain of headaches, general weakness, mood swings, pressure surges, and seek help from therapists and cardiologists. Frequent complaints:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness
  • Rapid fatigue
  • Drowsiness during the day and trouble sleeping at night
  • Loss of concentration
  • Brain fog
  • Blood pressure jumps
  • Cardiovascular problems
  • Worsening mood
  • Increased irritability
  • Manifestations of aggression
  • Exacerbation of chronic diseases.

On days of magnetic storms, doctors usually give general recommendations that will help reduce the impact and support the body. Basic tips:

  • Maintain a normal daily schedule
  • Get enough sleep (at least 7-9 hours a day)
  • Do morning exercises and take a contrast shower
  • Eat a balanced diet with added fruits and vegetables.
  • Drink enough water
  • Do not abuse coffee, energy drinks, alcohol, cigarettes, spicy and junk food
  • Ventilate the room regularly
  • Be sure to walk in the fresh air for at least 30 minutes a day
  • Reduce physical and psycho-emotional stress
  • If necessary, seek advice and assistance from specialists.
