In May 2024, the list of the most expensive islands to buy a home included Mykonos in the Cyclades, Paxos in the Ionian Islands, Skiathos in the Sporades, Hydra in the Argosaronic Islands, Patmos in the Dodecanese, Ikaria in the North Aegean region and Chania in Crete, according to research by spitogatos.
On the other hand, those who are interested in buying a house for less than 2000 euros/sq.m. can look for a house in Skopelos, Salamis, Rhodes and Kos, on the North Aegean islands such as Chios, Crete, in places such as like the region of Rethymnon and Lasithi, as well as on Evia.
The Cyclades are a favorite for buying a home
The Cyclades Islands lead the way again highest average asking prices for homes for sale, with Mykonos and Antiparos showing the highest sales prices of all the other Greek islands. Next come Paros, Santorini and Folegandros.
Cycladic Islands with lowest average asking price for home sale – these are Tinos, Andros and Syros. The largest increase in home sales prices in May 2024 compared to the same period in 2023 occurred in nearby Kythnos, Folegandros and Milos.
Ionian Islands – a favorite tourist destination for both Greeks and visitors from abroad
But how much does a house on the Ionian island cost? The tallest average asking price observed on the island of Paxos, followed by Lefkada and Ithaca. Ionian island with lowest average asking price for sale of housing – this is Corfu. The island of Lefkada recorded the largest increase in average house prices (23.5%) compared to May 2023.
Sporades have always attracted the interest of domestic and international tourism due to their natural beauty and the interest of international film production. The largest increase in May 2024, compared to the same period last year, was recorded in Alonissos.
Argosaronic Islands
The third most expensive is the island of Hydra. The Argosaronic Islands, in addition to their close proximity to Athens, are a popular and cosmopolitan destination for Greek and foreign tourists. The most economical island of Argosaronikos is Salamis, where it is recorded biggest increase in average asking price (10.8%) compared to May 2023.
Dodecanese, although a more remote location than the capital and port of Piraeus, is also a place that attracts the interest of visitors and potential buyers. The island with the highest housing price is Patmos, while the cheapest is Leros, with an average asking price of €1,508/sqm.
North Aegean Islands
The island of Ikaria (with the longest living population) has highest average asking price for housing, and most cheap is Samos. The largest price increase in May 2024 compared to the previous year was recorded in Chios (17.4%).
Crete, Greece's largest island with countless natural beauties and rich culture, has traditionally been a popular summer holiday destination. Regarding the average asking price for home sales, the tallest observed in the Chania region, and lowest – in the Heraklion region. In Heraklion, the largest increase in the average asking price for the sale of houses (9.9%) was recorded in May 2024 compared to the same period last year.
Euboea
The proximity to Attica and Athens is not the only reason why Evia is a favorite summer holiday destination.
