From July 1, a six-day work week approved by the state will begin to be implemented, introducing a new regime into the work schedule and wages at enterprises that operate continuously for 24 hours, from Monday to Saturday.
In particular, we are talking about the right that the employer will now have: he can unilaterally introduce a six-day working week. The six-day work schedule – in accordance with Law 5053/23 – applies to continuously operating enterprises that apply a five-day work system per week. This will not affect DECO, the public sector and banks. Moreover tourism and catering sectors are also excluded from the new law.
This regulation is aimed at companies that operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week shift schedules, who cannot find new qualified personnel and therefore cannot properly manage their shifts.
According to the new regulation, in order to use the sixth day of the week, businesses must first responsibly declare in “Π.Σ. ΕΡΓΑΝΗ ΙΙ” about what they belong to a certain category of enterprises. The duration of staff work during an additional day cannot exceed 8 hoursc, but overtime work is not allowed.
If employment coincides with a Sunday or a holiday, the employee will receive 40% and 75% additional payment, i.e. total additional 115%.
In cases where enterprises or holdings have five-day night shifts (00:00-06:00), under no circumstances are they allowed to be involved in the sixth working day on the night shift.
