Three people were killed and five were injured in a shootout between rival armed groups in Istanbul.
Officially, Turkish police say it was a clash between two rival gangs, but the Israeli Foreign Ministry became involved as it was initially reported that Israelis were among the victims. Later reports speak of Israelis of Arab origin.
The involvement of Israeli citizens complicates matters, as Israel is currently not very popular in Turkey due to the war in Gaza. However, when it comes to Israelis of Arab origin, the issue becomes even more complex. There is no doubt that the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs would not have dealt with the shooting if it did not know that its citizens were involved.
The confrontation took place in the cafeteria. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to investigate.
