The Mitsotakis government will sign a secret defense agreement with V. Zelensky

The Mitsotakis government will sign a secret defense agreement between Greece and Ukraine with Vladimir Zelensky.

We talk about a secret treaty because it is a continuation of the secret diplomacy that the Mitsotakis government has practiced over the past years regarding the war in Ukraine. What will this defense agreement contain? Supplies of weapons and ammunition? Sending troops? Will it include military assistance against Russia? Maybe the supply of fighter jets? No one can answer this question because the government is keeping it a “closest secret.”

This will probably be an agreement similar to what Ukraine signed with some countries EU. According to one version, we are talking about a Security Agreement, according to another – about defense and industrial cooperation, it is also possible that this will be some version of the agreement, similar to the one that Ukraine signed with Britain.

In the first case it was “Agreement on security cooperation between Ukraine and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland“, in the second: agreement on defense and industrial cooperation. Ukraine has signed similar or similar agreements with several other EU countries, Canada and Japan.

It is reported that the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Igor Zhovkva recently met with the Special Envoy of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Ukraine Spyridon Lambrides. Igor Zhovkva thanked Greece for its consistent support and significant assistance to his country, including defense, since the start of the Russian intervention. During the meeting, the interlocutors agreed to complete negotiations on a bilateral security agreement so that Ukraine and Greece could sign it in the near future!

He also emphasized the importance of further strengthening this assistance, based on the current needs of the Ukrainian army. Igor Zhovkva also noted the importance of Greece’s support for the start of negotiations on the country’s membership in the EU and its approach to NATO membership!

Some time ago, Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, during which the Greek Prime Minister confirmed that Greece will continue to support Ukraine. Following decisions of the European Council taken last December, Kyriakos Mitsotakis confirmed Greece's support for Ukraine's European course and the convening of the EU-Ukraine Intergovernmental Conference in June, which will mark the official start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
