Deodorants and breast cancer: what new research shows

A new Swiss study highlights the serious risks faced by women who regularly use deodorants containing aluminum salts.

Scientists say exposure to aluminum chloride, found in most deodorants, promotes the development of tumors. A recent study by experts at the University of Geneva shows that The use of certain aluminum compounds in body deodorants contributes to the development of breast cancer. These connections temporarily block sweat glands and disrupt estrogen balance, which is a risk factor for carcinogenesis.

One of the study's authors, oncologist Andre-Pascal Sappino, isolated human breast cells and used them in studies on mice. The scientist found that long-term exposure to these compounds led to the formation of metastatic cancer tumors. According to him, injections of aluminum salts into mice led to the development of “very aggressive tumors.”

Mr. Sappino advises both women and men to avoid using deodorants containing such salts. The study was published in the International Journal of Cancer.
