“Spartans”: there is one less parliamentary party in the European elections because… “they like it that way”

The Greek Supreme Court has decided to exclude the Spartans party from the upcoming European elections on June 9, 2024, without any explanation.

Division A1 of the Supreme Court has announced the final list of parties that will take part in the European elections, and without any other explanation, this right-wing party has been excluded from the list. ND's objections to the party's participation in the June elections were outlined in a memorandum, and the Supreme Court leadership appears to have accepted it.

The party of Vasilis Stygas promptly paid the amount corresponding to the election fee, but is now under scrutiny due to its close ties with Ilias Kasidiaris, who was convicted in the first instance of organizing a criminal association. PASOK and Nea Aristera also filed petitions against participating in the elections.

Vasilis Stygas from Parliament reacted to the “blockade” of the Spartans by the Supreme Court in connection with the European elections. “As a result, the forces of darkness led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis prevailed over the independent judicial system in quotation marks. For the first time in history, the party was excluded from participation in elections by infernal methods, – said the president of the Spartans. – Finally, the forces of darkness, led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, have taken over the independent justice system. For the first time in history, a party is excluded from elections using such cynical methods. The Spartans remain faithful to the covenants of our ancestors”.

Of course, it is worth noting that the reason for these steps was given by V. Stygas himself, when he called Mitsotakis’s party Cosa Nostra and the Mafiaalthough he later retracted his words.

A decision from the Electoral Court is also expected on protests filed in connection with the legality of the election of deputies from the Spartans party.

PS Kyriakos Mitsotakis was very indignant when the international organization “Reporters Without Borders” ranked Greece 108th in the list of countries in the world. This is the lowest level in Europe (Ukraine is in 79th place).
