A sudden wave of hail hit areas of Nea Propontida late on Saturday 20 April.
In particular, the territories of Olynthos and Ag. Mamas, Moudania, Portaria, as well as the areas of Nea Gonia and N. Kallikratia.
Local farmers told halkidikinews.gr that the phenomenon was short-lived but intense, leading them to fear significant damage to crops, fruits and vegetables.
The comment of the president of the agricultural cooperative “Simantron”, Philoklis Gotzias, is typical: “There was hail in the countryside of Chalkidiki. Tomorrow, with the first rays of the sun, the damage will be visible and will be assessed by specialists.”
