Low wages and inflation "drown" Greek youth

Low birth rates and brain drain are reducing Greece's population. The DiaNEOsis study shows the tragic situation facing the “future generation”.

The current “Greek drama” experienced by the youth of Greece is reflected in the results of a major survey conducted by DiaNEOsis. When it comes to the most important issues facing young people today, topping the list is low wages pay.

It is characteristic that the 6% increase in the minimum wage from April 1 affected only 22% of all workers, who, however, remain “in the poverty zone” and require immediate and decisive measures to protect their incomes.

Straightaway low wages are followed by unemploymentuncertain professional and insurance future, inadequate education system, poor mental health, inability to start a family, lack of meritocratic justicelack of independence-autonomy, lack of opportunities, housing, loneliness, restrictions on freedoms/rights, poor physical health, racial and other discrimination make the lives of young people unbearable.

Meritocracy (literally “power of the worthy”, from Latin meritus “worthy” + ancient Greek κράτος “power, rule”) is a management principle, according to which the highest (main) leadership positions should be occupied by the most capable people, regardless of their social origin and financial wealth.

At a time when Greece is experiencing a severe demographic crisis, 80.2% of young people say they “intend to remain childless” because they cannot afford to have a child due to poverty. 52.7% believe the government is to blame for the huge problems Greece faces today. 49.1% say that the economic situation in our country will continue to be bad.
