Tax returns 2024 can be filed in the last ten days of April – two main innovations


Tax filing time is quickly approaching. The platform is expected to open in the last 10 days of April.

There are two important differences this year compared to last year. The first is due to the fact that a new tax system is being introduced for more than 700 thousand freelancersand the second – enters our lives automated filing of declarations for more than 1 million employees and pensioners.

As the IRS clarifies, pensioners and employees will not need to fill out or file a tax return if they choose, as AADE will do it for them.

This year is the last year that 730,000 professionals will pay a professional fee (τέλος επιτηδεύματος), which has effectively been reduced from 650 euros to 325 euros. In 2025, according to statements by the Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis, the tax will be abolished.

In the same time Freelancers, self-employed and individual entrepreneurs will see automatic AADE calculationswhich calculated imputed income based on changes in the tax system 700,000 specialists. The most important thing is that the amounts of imputed income will be pre-filled by the tax authorities. This means that taxpayers will see the minimum taxable income as determined by AADE when filing their return, and based on the data AADE received from myDATA, the form codes will be pre-populated, but “open” for corrections to the E3 income and expense field.

Professionals may declare less taxable income than their estimated income, but what they will have to pay will be calculated based on their estimated income.

Finally, those who believe the imputation approach to income is unfair have the opportunity to challenge the tax by filing an objection on a new platform prepared by AADE. What changes regarding the payment of tax τέλος επιτηδεύματος:

• 325 euros for self-employed.

• 400-500 euros for individuals whose income comes from a self-employed service business or freelance profession, and who have a written agreement with a maximum of three individuals and/or legal entities, or 75% of their gross income comes from one individual and/or legal entity.

• 800 euros for legal entities that carry out commercial activities and have their headquarters in tourist areas, as well as in cities or villages with a population of up to 200,000 inhabitants.
