The US called Russian games with Zaporizhzhya NPP dangerous

The United States calls on the Russian Federation “not to play dangerous games” at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and return control over it to Ukraine.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller noted briefingthat they are monitoring the situation and have seen the official IAEA report, which notes that damage from the drone strike did not compromise nuclear safety:

“Russia is playing a very dangerous game by seizing the Ukrainian nuclear power plant, which is the largest in Europe. This is dangerous and we continue to call on Russia to withdraw its military and civilian personnel, return full control of the plant to the competent Ukrainian authorities and refrain from any actions that could lead to a nuclear incident at the plant.”

Let us remind you that on April 7, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi stated about three direct hits on the main containment structure of the Zaporozhye NPP reactor on Sunday. Meanwhile, yesterday, April 9, a new message appeared, the agency’s account on the social network X quotes words from IAEA Director Rafael Grossi:

“The International Atomic Energy Agency was informed today by the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant about a drone attack on the plant's training center adjacent to the site. The recorded explosion is confirmed by the observation of the IAEA team. This time there is no direct threat to nuclear safety, but this incident again highlights the extreme seriousness of the situation.”

In the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine (GUR) statedthat Kyiv is not involved in any armed provocations at the occupied nuclear power plant in Energodar. “The aggressor state is once again endangering a nuclear facility, the civilian population and the environment of the whole of Europe,” Andrey Yusov, a representative of the GUR, said in an interview with UP. According to him, Russia is carrying out imitation strikes, including on the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

Head of Diplomacy EU Josep Borrell, after the drone attack on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, statedthat Russia must leave the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant. He wrote about this on his Twitter (X). Borrell noted that the reckless drone attack on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant increases the risk of a dangerous nuclear accident, and such attacks should be stopped.
