Attica: Intensive spraying of mosquito repellents

Eastern Attica is undergoing intensive spraying using ground and aerial means as part of the region's comprehensive mosquito control program.

Since Monday 8 April, 4,000 acres have been sprayed in the aquatic habitat of Schinias National Park in Marathon – an area with a large mosquito population increased by prolonged heat and drought – with eight helicopter spraying flights conducted in the area.

“The impacts of the climate crisis are numerous and affect many aspects of our daily lives., said the Governor of the Attica region, Nikos Hardalias. – In the Attica region, we are committed to protecting the health of citizens from the effects of climate change, such as the increase in mosquito populations and the resulting risks. Our services work with absolute professionalism and consistency to map the needs in every corner of the basin and implement a spraying program using all scientific developments and modern technologies. This program will be strictly implemented in all 66 municipalities of the Attica region so that everyone – residents and visitors alike – can spend the summer safe and healthy.”

Let us note that since last week, the competent services of the region have begun drawing up a map of Eastern Attica, and by Friday, April 12, spraying of the sights of all municipalities will be completed, both by foot brigades and by air means (helicopters and drones) in hard-to-reach places. Mosquito control is carried out as part of measures to prevent West Nile fever.
