Execution near Krynoki: Ukrainian ombudsman appealed to the UN (video 18+)


The execution of Ukrainian soldiers near Krynki, recorded on video, once again demonstrated a violation of international humanitarian law and became the reason for the Ombudsman to appeal to the UN and the Red Cross.

The Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets published video on his Telegram page and said that he had sent official appeals. In the video, three unarmed Ukrainian soldiers are lying in a ditch, and they are deliberately shot:

“The Russian Federation immediately sent official letters to the UN and the ICRC about another violation of international humanitarian law so that the organizations would document this fact. This should become the evidence base for the tribunal over the criminals.”

He emphasized that “the killing of prisoners of war is a violation of the Geneva Convention and a serious international crime; such cases are a systematic practice of the Russian invaders.”

According to the Ombudsman, the international community must give Russia a clear signal – traces of war crimes cannot be hidden. He reminded writes “Crimea. Realities” that “war crimes have no statute of limitations.”

Among other things, experts conducted interviews with 60 Ukrainian soldiers who were recently released from captivity. According to Daniel Bell, the head of the mission, in almost every interview respondents said that Russian military personnel and officials torture prisoners, including using beatings, electric shock, forcing them to remain in an uncomfortable position for a long time, threatening or simulating execution. More than 50% of prisoners experienced sexual violence: “Most prisoners also report suffering from being unable to communicate with their families, as well as the lack of satisfactory food and medical care.”

At the end of February, Yuriy Belousov, head of the department of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine for combating crimes committed in armed conflict, said that Ukrainian law enforcement officers were investigating 19 criminal proceedings regarding the murders of Ukrainian prisoners of war. According to him, since the start of the full-scale invasion, 45 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in captivity.
