Signs have been identified indicating that the hours of a person's life are numbered

Hospital staff often see patients dying of natural causes in their last moments of life. And therefore they can draw their own conclusions about how “near their end is.”

A hospice nurse shared with the Daily Express specific symptoms and behaviors when “the body prepares to stop performing vital functions“, writes reader.gr:

  1. Lethargy
In recent weeks and days, people noticeably reduce the “rhythm of life” and get tired easily. They often lack energy even for simple things like talking or eating.
  2. Decreased appetite
Often a person, because he does not use as much energy and is not as active, needs less food and drink. The nurse added that this symptom is often a source of concern for loved ones.
  3. Feeling hot or cold
Another sign that someone is in the last days of their life is an inability to regulate body temperature, which may cause the person to feel unusual (unexplained hot or cold). As his body begins to slow down its vital functions, his blood circulation also deteriorates, which can lead to a similar condition.
  4. Changes in breathing rhythm
As the patient reaches the last hours of his life, his breathing rate changes, becoming slower and shallower. Changes in breathing may be so subtle that family members may not notice that the person has stopped breathing altogether.
  5. “Rattling” sounds
Sometimes, when the patient's breathing rhythm changes and the person periodically loses consciousness, he may not be able to clear secretions/phlegm from his mouth or throat. The nurse explained that this can cause a characteristic “rattled sound in the throat.” However, the nurse explained that this does not cause any discomfort or pain to the dying person. Changing your body position in bed (from lying down to sitting) can help solve this problem.
  6. Strong desire to say or do something/agitation
When patients feel the end is near, some often want to say/do something, “that we didn't have time” some time ago. The nurse says: “I remember one particular patient who was quite upset because he needed to talk to a family member whom he had not seen for a long time. And to help him with this, we called the person to the hospital to the dying.”
  7. Confusion
This problem may manifest itself as hallucinations that suddenly occur.
