Killer Kiriaki Griva was sent to the psychiatric hospital of Korydallos prison

The 38-year-old accused of murdering Kiriaki Griva requested a psychiatric report, telling authorities that he had been hospitalized 7 times in the past.

The man accused of murdering Kyriaki near the Agios Anargyros police station has been placed in the psychiatric hospital of Korydallos prison by the decision of the investigator and the prosecutor. The defendant told authorities that he had has been diagnosed with a serious mental illness and has been admitted to government hospitals and private clinics in the past.

“I don't remember what happened. I found out today that I hurt on Sunday.” – the accused allegedly said to the interrogator, who, through his lawyer, gave him a memorandum in which he spoke in detail about the psychiatric and mental problems he encountered.

According to the information, the accused provided in his memorandum data according to which over the course of 10 years (from 2013 to 2023) he was hospitalized 7 times: in the central psychiatric hospital of Daphne, departments in Attikon and in private psychiatric clinics. According to his statements, he was diagnosed with serious mental illnesses, as a result of which he suffered psychotic episodes.

The guy was brought into the interrogation room with his hands tied behind his back, wearing a bulletproof vest and overalls. Reinforced police squads were stationed at the courthouse on Evelpidon Street. He was accompanied by police and appeared calm, with gauze wrapped around his head, apparently due to a self-inflicted injury.

“This is a heinous crime, there are no words, no words to say to the Kiriaki family,” – argued the lawyer of the accused, Apostolos Lytras, noting that the unfortunate girl did the obvious, namely, she went to the police station in search of protection and help. As for the client, the lawyer of the Kiriaki family emphasized: “We have requested a psychiatric examination and will await the results.”

PS I wonder if the Greek police know how many mentally ill and violent individuals roam the streets looking for victims? Maybe it’s still necessary to keep records of such individuals before they start killing?
