Youth Pass: when the platform will open, what beneficiaries need to know

Applications for the Youth Pass open today, Monday 1 April. Beneficiaries of the new assistance cycle will be those who turned 18 years old between January 1 and December 31, 2023. However, in order to qualify for the €150, they will have to provide their tax return.

Before submitting an application, it is also mandatory that the potential beneficiary registers with the National Telecommunications Registry (EMEP) to verify their mobile phone number.

The application is submitted through a special platform vouchers.gov.gr/youthpass. The assistance amount is provided in the form of a digital debit card, which beneficiaries will be able to use at businesses operating in the cultural, tourism and transport sectors, such as theaters, hotels or when purchasing airline tickets.

What Youth Pass beneficiaries need to know

Currently, potential beneficiaries submit applications between April 1 and May 15 each year. The start of filing special applications each year if it falls on a Saturday, Sunday or other holiday is postponed to the next business day. Payments to beneficiaries for the next year are made automatically, after re-reviewing the conditions for participation in the program.

It should be noted that there are no property or income criteria, meaning all young people over 18 years of age can apply, regardless of whether they are the offspring of wealthy or “vulnerable” families. The application is submitted once and cannot be submitted again after the beneficiary reaches 19 years of age.

In the new “batch” of April Fool's Day filers, those who turned 18 between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2023, will be able to claim benefits, provided they also file their tax returns. However, if for some reason a young person does not apply at age 18, he will be able to do so when he turns 19, of course, receiving benefits only in the second year and not retroactively.

Conditions of receipt Youth Pass

A prerequisite for receiving financial support is the timely submission of an application to the appropriate service by entering on the website vouchers.gov.gr/youthpass Account codes of the General Secretariat for Public Administration Information Systems (taxisnet).

To complete the process, the potential beneficiary must register with the National Communications Registry (EMEP) to verify their mobile phone number. Recipients of the €150 subsidy are eligible for Greek tax residents who have reached the age of 18 or 19 during the year preceding the application and who have submitted an application on the platform.

Where to get Youth Pass

After submitting the application, the credit institution or financial institution informs the recipient about the first activation of the card and the crediting of the amount of money via text message (sms) or email with an attached link to activate the digital debit card.

Beneficiaries can use the support received to make purchases or receive services from businesses operating in the tourism (e.g. tourist accommodation), culture (e.g. attending theater performances or concerts, buying books, etc.) and transport (taxis, buses, trains, ferry and air tickets, car or yacht rentals, etc.).
