Likes: we’ll weigh it, "like in a pharmacy"

Residents of Greece began to buy food at street public markets, like in a “pharmacy”. That is, if previously they bought in kilograms, now they ask you to weigh 1-2 (!) fruits or vegetables.

Many people now choose lunchtime to shop at the market as prices have been significantly reduced before closing. Consumers, in order to save money, take into account “small nuances”, since prices for fruits and vegetables are rapidly rising. According to the ANT1 channel, their cost increased by 12.5%. In particular, prices increased by:

  • Cauliflower 160%
  • Broccoli 100%
  • Zucchini 88%
  • Kiwi 50%
  • Pears and apples by 40%.

According to producers and suppliers of agricultural products to public street markets (Laiki), the rise in prices is due to both an increase in the cost of production and a decrease in its volume due to weather conditions. At the same time, speculation (the practice of profit) flourishes.
