Germany to issue 11 euro coin

A unique silver coin with a face value of 11 euros, weighing 14 grams and with a diameter of 30 millimeters will be issued in Germany in honor of the upcoming European Football Championship.

Euro 2024 will be held in ten German cities, which will delight not only fans, but also coin collectors. For the first time since the reunification of the country, Germany will host the main European tournament among national teams that are part of UEFA. The European Football Championship will take place from June 14 to July 14.

In preparation for such an important event, the German government will issue a commemorative silver coin in two minting options: excellent and excellent with a mirror shine.

The front side of the unique coin was designed by Cologne artist Detlef Behr. The obverse depicts the roof of the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, where the Euro 2024 final will be held, and a stylized football field with corner flags and a literally tangible ball in the center. The bright elements on the coin refer to the national colors of Germany. The numbers 1 and 0 indicate both the possible result of the match and the ten venues of the championship: Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Dortmund, Leipzig, Gelsenkirchen, Stuttgart, Dusseldorf.

The reverse design was developed by Lorenz Krössmann from Berlin – a German eagle, the inscription “Federal Republic of Germany”, 12 European stars and a mark “500 silver”. Along the smooth edge of the commemorative coin there is an inscription: “United in the heart of Europe.”

The nominal value of the exclusive coin is eleven euros, according to the number of players in the football team. The version with a mirror finish will, of course, cost more. The website of the German Federal Administrative Office lists the price as almost 30 euros. Both versions of the coin will be released in a circulation of 111,111. They will go on sale on May 8, but those interested can pre-order now.

All that remains is to add, writes DW that the 11 euro coin, created in cooperation with the German Football Association (DFB), will appear for the first time in German history.
