Fatal accident in Menidi. Father of the 19-year-old victim: "I found out that the singer is to blame – we will sue" (video)

The father of 19-year-old Antonis, who died in a fatal car crash in Menidi involving singer Yiannis Xanthopoulos, appeared on a TV show on Thursday morning (14/3) and said: “We will proceed through legal means.”

The unfortunate young man’s friend, his peer Andreas, who was hospitalized with injuries, still cannot comprehend his loss. Adonis’s father was shocked, reporting:

“There’s nothing more deplorable than an honest man driving to work for five hours and ‘leaving’ like that. He doesn’t drink crap or take pills or anything. They just went to work like they always do, very good guys, really good . Everyone you talk to about children is the best. Wherever you go to talk about them, they will talk about them. I heard that it’s all the singer’s fault, what is he all about? No, he is guilty, very guilty. Having accelerated and not even bothering to slow down, he rammed another car and almost took two lives, not one. And the others he left behind, the wounds he left us. He was 19 years old, in two months he would have been 20.”.

The father of the deceased also added: “How could he not have a dream… How can a nineteen-year-old guy not have a dream? He is who he is, and our whole family learned to be worthy and alive, to have company and friends, to be respectful. Both within life and in within the limits of action and the state.” He clarified that the family of Yiannis Xanthopoulos did not contact them:“We don’t know them and we don’t want to know them. We want them to get the punishment they deserve.”

On March 13, at about 5 a.m., a fatal accident occurred in Menidi. The full picture of the incident is still being studied by traffic police investigators, but at the moment it is known that a car driven by Yiannis Xanthopoulos, a popular Greek singer of Pontic origin, driving at high speed, crashed into another car in which there were 2 people. According to police, 1 died on the spot, the second is in the hospital.

The singer is yet to testify about the accident and his testimony is expected to shed light on the cause of the fatal accident. He reportedly immediately got out of the car when the collision occurred to help the occupants of the other vehicle. Speaking to Alpha a few hours after the accident, a visibly shaken Yiannis Xanthopoulos said he did not lose control of the car, while documentary video shows a third car violating STOP.
