Lenten table: at what price will food be sold this year?

Consumer market research for Lenten dishes is at its peak in the run-up to Lent.

Prices for seafood, which enjoys a prominent place during Lent, are expected to be relatively moderate, at least according to the vice president of the Varvakio Agora fish market. But on the other hand, we remind you that EVEP President Vasilis Korkidis predicted an increase of 10%!

The expert noted that manufacturers and suppliers are currently contacting the Ministry of Development in order to present “lenten products” to consumers starting next week (form a “lenten basket” in supermarkets), as was the case last year on the eve of Easter.

“I can’t say that we will have any special increase in prices for the relevant products. Perhaps some products will even be cheaper than last year. For example, squid cost 10-12 euros a year earlier, this year 8 euros. Perhaps that the price will rise in the next few weeks, but I don’t think it will exceed last year’s price.

Prawns are sold at the same price as last year: 12 euros for large ones. Small shrimps cost 9-10 euros a year ago, this year 8 euros. There are many factors that can affect prices. As for the Lenten table, we made sure that prices remained low so that the whole world could enjoy it,” emphasized Mr. Mandalvanos, deputy head of the fish market.

Let us remind you that on Wednesday, March 13, the premiere of the “Lenten basket” is expected, which will include frozen seafood, various salads or spreads, usually taramosalata, Russian (Olivier) and, of course, halva. The Lenten basket measure is expected to last until Holy Saturday.

As Minister Kostas Skrekas stated on the SKAI TV channel, the announcement Easter basket will be done on time, just like last year.
