The Cabinet of Ministers approved the Period of Poverty program presented by Deputy Minister of Health Irene Agapidaki.
It is estimated that around 20% of women in Greece cannot afford the monthly cost of period products for themselves and/or their daughters, with many girls missing up to 30 days or more of school due to lack of period products.
The program will focus on areas such as Western Attica and Western Thessaloniki and will include:
1) distribution of 14,000,000 menstruation products in schools,
2) educating parents on menstruation issues (especially in single-parent families),
3) menstrual pack at school,
4) de-stigmatization campaigns and activities to raise awareness and empower all girls in the country.
PS You can safely rename the program “Period of Poverty for Greece”…
