A gift for Valentine’s Day in pure Greek style

You’re probably used to the fact that on Valentine’s Day, lovers give each other red hearts, balls and ribbons, bouquets of roses, aperitifs with aphrodisiacs and light gourmet dishes? Forget, in Greece this holiday is understood somewhat differently.

In honor of this day, a grill house on the island of Crete prepares a huge pita gyros in the form of a bouquet, stuffed with spicy grilled meat, French fries, tomato slices, chopped onions and fresh parsley, and, of course, garlic tzatziki sauce.

The bouquet is wrapped in white paper and a chic red ribbon holds the incredible creation together. Total weight – 8.5 kg!

This is enough to send a romantic couple to the nearest kiosk for a barrel of cola or feed the crowd gathered for a small Valentino orgy (if you are aware of the history of this holiday)…

The grill house near Heraklion, Crete, seems to know the truth that “love comes and goes, but you always want to eat,” and for the last couple of years they have been preparing this original creation on February 14th.

In a post on social media, the grill house notes that bouquets “pita gyros” is an idea that was born a few years ago and continues because people have shown great interest in it.

“February 14 is Valentine’s Day, and we want to share with you a story that fills us with pride. A few years ago, we were inspired by a bouquet of pita bread – a unique combination of tastes and aesthetics that gave new life to a common symbol of Greek gastronomy. And now we are delighted to see , how this idea has become loved and famous, especially on Valentine’s Day.

This day is an opportunity to express our gratitude to everyone who supports us and gives us incentive to continue our work. A round bouquet cake is a way of thanking you, sharing love and taste with you.”
